Build a foundation with essential Japanese vocabulary
After learning the kana, the next step is to acquire a working set of everyday Japanese words. The Basic Vocabulary module collects high-frequency words used in daily conversation, divided into five levels (Lv1 ~ Lv5) and grouped into "Day" chunks of about 30 words each.
Lv1 covers the absolute essentials — greetings, numbers, family, common verbs and adjectives. By Lv5, you'll be comfortable with the vocabulary needed to understand simple Japanese conversations, signs, menus, and short articles. Each word is paired with its Korean / English meaning and, where applicable, the Kanji form.
For best results, study one Day per session, then review the same Day a few times across the week. Use flashcards for active recall and the quiz mode to verify retention. Once you finish Lv5, you'll be ready to start the JLPT module at the N5 / N4 level.
The full Lv1–Lv5 set contains roughly 2,000 words. Use the interactive flashcards above for active recall, and the quiz mode to lock the vocabulary into long-term memory.
